Integrating migrants into the job market in French-speaking Belgium remains a challenge, with employment rates below the EU average. The Hospi’Jobs project, led by Irfam in collaboration with Le Monde des Possibles, was launched in 2020 in Liège. It aims to address this issue by offering low-skilled, non-European migrants a training program that combines language learning with hospital internships.
The project is structured as a twelve-week program that includes French language courses tailored to specific professions, intercultural communication training, and hospital internships.
It highlights the need to better adapt professional integration systems to the realities faced by migrants, while also encouraging companies to participate more actively in a supportive and inclusive approach.
A complementary project, Hospi’talité, was launched in 2022 to enhance intercultural understanding and improve relationships between interns and hospital staff. Supported by hospitals and recognized by regional authorities, the initiative continues to evolve to meet these challenges.
The initiative is still ongoing in 2024 with success and has been extended throughout the Walloon Region to the sectors of nursing homes and facilities for the elderly. Thanks to this expansion, new professional integration opportunities are being offered to migrants.
