The GOLD project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, seeks to address the growing needs of aging people with disabilities by providing essential support to professionals and family carers in the field of disability and older adult services. Running from 1 November 2024 to 30 April 2027, the project involves eight organisations, including three CEC members: AGFE, UNESSA, and SCF.
The main objectives of the project include:
- Equipping carers and professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively address the complex needs of older adults with disabilities.
- Promoting inclusion, ensuring self-determination, and upholding the dignity of persons with disabilities as they age.
- Raising awareness of the unique challenges faced by older adults with disabilities.
The project adopts a comprehensive approach combining research, training, and practical tools to support ageing individuals with disabilities. Field research and interviews with care staff will inform a competence framework and pedagogical guidelines, enhancing understanding of their social, psychological, and care needs. A five-module training programme on an open-access e-learning platform, along with a practical toolkit, will equip professionals and carers to deliver tailored support. Policy recommendations will guide EU decision-makers, while awareness-raising activities will engage society to ensure older adults with disabilities are fully supported and included in all aspects of life.
